Are you preparing for a mission or getting ready to send one of your own children on a mission? When you get your mission call you are given a lot of information concerning your mission. Included will be a packing list of things that you are required to bring with you. You will be living out of a suitcase for two years, so you have to pack light. Here are a few extra things to considering bringing with you that will probably come in handy.

-Duct tape: this is a necessity for the mission. Duct tape is the magical fix for everything. You can patch worn out shoes, torn backpacks, ripped pants and broken bikes. Elders become experts in making duct tape wallets and scripture holders. Some sister missionaries have been known to make duct tape dresses.

-Music: you are allowed to take church music with you on your mission. Many missionaries get bored really quickly of the music they bring. So, although MOTAB is fabulous to listen to, make sure you bring a variety of music from different LDS artists. Read the rules about music in your packing list, and then make sure you bring the most music you are allowed to and have a great variety.

-Exercise: on most missions you have to get up at 6:30am. If you want to exercise you have to get up 30 minutes earlier, at 6:00am, and do it then. Exercise is really important and will help you to stay healthy and happy while you are serving your mission. Pack some small ankle weights or a jump rope. Another great idea is to bring an exercise program that you can follow each day and will keep you motivated to keep going.

While you are packing for your mission remember to add these extra items to your suitcase. You will use them more than you think. Other missionaries will come to you to ask for duct tape to fix torn or broken items. Being able to escape every once in a while by listening to music will provide some relaxation. Working out will be another great escape and a chance to burn off stress and create extra energy. These items will all fit into your suitcase and take up very little space, so bring them along.
